Fun with MA COVID-19 reporting 01-Aug-2020 edition

4th day straight of that note on ongoing delays impacting the number of cases for the day... I don't care I don't care I don't care I don't care I don't care I don't care I don't care I don't care....

You know what I care about? Cases per day for the last month now show a weekly trend that is inescapably obvious as to its increase. Where yesterday, the average for the week of July 19 was only 1 additional case per day than the week of July 12, it's now 7.5 more cases per day for the same comparison.

So, the overall weekly averages:
  • Jun 28 - 222.85
  • Jul 5 - 277.57
  • Jul 12 - 297
  • Jul 19 - 304.57 (and yes, we will still see more cases come in to push this even higher.
You know what I care more about than that there is delayed reporting of cases causing the report for the given day to appear worse than the state wants us to think it is? The number of days where we see 350+ cases being reported continues to grow...
  • Week of June 28 = 0
  • Week of July 5 = 1 (that Friday)
  • Week of July 12 = 2
  • Week of July 19 = 4 (with the last remaining weekday being that Friday, whose count went from 238 yesterday to 344 today so ... yeah, I expect it to get past 350 by Monday evening)
Week of July 26 = 2 ALREADY... Wednesday is currently at 319 and every weekday that isn't already tallied above 350 increased by 83 to 132 between yesterday and today so you better well damn believe it will be another 5-day of 350+ cases. Hell, this week will likely turn out to be a 5-day 400+ count week.

And Gov Baker is worried about us thinking that a 1-day count of 429 makes us look bad? Monday had 477 new cases and that count will likely continue to grow for another week.   Baker thinks a 1-day increase of 429 makes us look bad? How about what's likely to be at least 2 days with more than that since Tuesday's count of 373 is 38 more today than it was yesterday and likely to also continue to increase for another week.

Baker suggests this is just because of a few parties where there was an explosion of cases. Give me a break. We let down our guard when the state told us it was ok to go back to work and to start going out to eat indoors and going to movie theaters and museums.

Baker, you can't wish this away. You can't blame it away. Others have tried before you. Enough already. Face the fact that we re-opened too far too fast and we need to scale back. This all started with phase 2b based on the timing of cases so it's time to move back to 2a at least... or really try to get us back on track by scaling us all the way back to the start so we have a chance of driving down the case count. Keep in mind, It took us almost all of April and May to bring the cases down consistency below 1,000 per day the first time... how long do you think it'll take us this time with schools and colleges re-opening.

Stay safe. Stay sane. Stay informed. Stay outraged.
