Fun with MA COVID-19 reporting 30-Sep-2020 Greater-Greater Somerville local edition

(All average cases listed are 14-day averages and are per 100,000, which means that it's comparable between cities without regard for each city's population)
  • Arlington (green) - Sadly looks like last week's 1.9 was a fluke as, ignoring it, you continue the previous trend of increasing: 0.2->0.6->1.6->2.3->2.2->1.9->3.1.
  • Boston (turned red) - Can't say I'm really all that surprised given the trend lines we were seeing at the end of last week and the fact that you were just barely within the yellow at that time. You're now red with 8.5. Here's hoping you can get things back under control soon.
  • Cambridge (green) - You've managed to break your trend but you haven't really started going down significantly... you were 2.6 last week and you're 2.5 this week. Glad to see you haven't moved into the 3's though.
  • Chelsea (RED!) - YOU'RE BACK AT IT WITH REDUCING THE RATE! I'm so proud of you! 31.9->29.4->25->22.9->22.4->18.8. Keep it going down like that! Your birthday present to me can realistically be a report of you being in the yellow! Make it happen.
  • Fitchburg (green) - Static and in a good place 3.6->4.6->2.4->2.4->3.1->2.2->1.5->1.5.
  • Holliston (red) - 8.3 last week became 9.3 this week with 7 new cases since last Wednesday. That's not so many that I would be surprised if they were all in the elderly center that saw the outbreak recently though so you might still be in a reasonably good place with that exception?
  • Lawrence (RED!!!) - 8.6->10.0->14.9->20.5->16.9->22.1->25.4
  • Lowell (turned red) - 2.9->2.7->4.2->5.9->6.4->7.9->10.9
  • Lynn (red) - 24.3->23.5->16.7->12.1->9.5.->12.7->11.3->10.1... Keep... it... going.
  • Malden (yellow) - 4.2->3.6->5.5->7.4->6.0->4.7->5.9 well... ok... that didn't last long... your race is no longer with Somerville but with Medford instead. Good luck
  • Medford (yellow) - 4.5->3.6->3.1->4.5->5.4->4.7->4.3->4.8... You don't want Malden to reach green before you do, do you? Mask up, distance out, and stay away from indoor spaces...
  • Quincy (green) - 3.7->3.0->2.7->3.1->3.1->3.7->4.4 - still green but for how long?
  • Somerville (yellow) - 3.7->4.7->5.8->7.7->7.6->4.9->3.8 WE MADE IT TO GREEN! This is no time to let up though. Keep wearing those masks... we can catch up to Fitchburg!
  • Have a city/town you'd like me to keep track of? PM me or comment below.
  • Springfield (turned red) - 4.5->3.2->2.5->3.0->3.3->4.3->8.3 ... just a quick note that you saw twice as many cases last week than the previous 2 weeks combined.
Oh, and just generally... the state map on page 24 of the weekly report seems a bit more colorful today than last week's. Do you suppose that means the state in general is doing worse? Maybe it's because we really are doing MUCH worse... ~sigh~... but that's another post

Stay Safe. Stay Sane. Stay Informed.
