Fun with MA COVID-19 Reporting 18-Nov-2020 edition

Last week's daily average is now up to 2326.1.  Reminder, the highest rate of any 7-consecutive-day period before that was Apr 16-22 with just 2217.7 and additional reminder that last week's case count is expected to still increase.

Last week also saw high individual days, as you might have imagined...

  • Friday's total, still seeing increases, is only met by 5 days in April (and no days since, including the week before last).
  • Wednesday - only met by 4 days
  • Tuesday - only met by 2 days
  • Thursday - only met by 1 day (and only 46 cases away from bypassing it)
  • Monday - single day increase we've seen bar none
The death count for last week ticked up again and now sits at 23.8 per day, matching the week of June 21.

Hospitalizations saw another day of increases by greater than 40+ (only 8 days from April 21 to the start of Nov reached this increase)... and we've now seen 4 days in the first 17 days of November reach that... three of those being the last 3 days... By the way, hospital use has increased by 77% since the start of November.  Intubated patient count, while seeing some days where it decreased, has increased by 53% since the start of November.  ICU headcount, also having seen a few days where it decreased, has DOUBLED since the start of November.

Oh, and don't forget the state's "7-day weighted average of percent of tests by molecular method that are positive"... you know, that figure that the state holds with the utmost import?  Yeah, that bs?  If you include college testing it's at 3.31 as the state proclaims on the front page of their daily report but if you look a bit further you find that it's at 5.37% if you take the college testing out.  Keep in mind that the state uses 4% for larger populations and 5% for medium populations as the point at which they start to get concerned.  So, as a state, with a 29.29 cases per day per 100,000 from Nov 1 through Nov 14 (and keep in mind that that tally is still increasing) and with a 5.37% average test rate, WE'RE RED BY THE STATE'S MODIFIED LAX DEFINITION.

But Gov Baker re-iterated today that he's asking people to take responsibility for their own actions rather than recognizing that he needs to take action.  Guess who's coming to Thanksgiving?

Stay safe. Stay sane. Stay informed. Stay understanding where we are with COVID-19.
