Fun with MA COVID-19 Reporting - 04-Apr-2021 Edition

The week of Apr 21, 2021 was the third week of increased average cases per day and now sits at 1,959.6, 41% more than the week of Mar 7, 2021.  Friendly reminder that at the peak of our first wave, we reached 2,177.1 with only one other week that was higher than the week of Apr 21, 2021.

I predict (and very safely so) that the week of April 28 will be even higher.  We may even top the 2,177.1 peak we saw a year ago.  Monday is already seen to be a higher single day case count than any day since Feb 8, 2021 or all but 4 days last April.  Tuesday is also pretty high, being reached by 2 days the week of April 21, 2021 and then also going back to Feb 8, 2021 and being higher than all but 7 days from last April.  All other days are very much still increasing daily (though we already know Wednesday was higher than an other day in March until Mar 22, 2021).

There is good news though: deaths per day appear to have started slowly decreasing again with the week of Mar 21, 2021 averaging 31.3 and the first 4 days of this past week only seeing an average of 26.5.... with that said, that's still 26.5 deaths per day (the remainder of the week is still coming in).

There's also a glimmer of good news with hospitalizations, since last week's hospitalization increases were less than the week before's.... but that's the extent to which the glimmer extends as we had been seeing decreases in hospitalizations from Jan 3, 2021 straight through to two weeks ago and so increasing hospitalizations of any sort would be bad.  We also saw for the first time since the week of Jan 3, 2021 that ICU hospitalizations increased last week.  Intubations saw their second week of increase too.

Stay safe. Stay sane. Stay informed.
