"The Left underestimates how angry the Right was over Covid responses"

I saw a post about how much people on the Right were/are so upset about what happened in response to Covid. On the one hand, yes, I agree. On the other, I don't care. Oh my god I don't care. We accepted the premise and this is the result.
"There were lock downs" no, there weren't.
"There were mask mandates" there are other clothing mandates that you don't care about.
"The vaccine mandates" were limited to where you worked.
"I don't like masks" you also don't like moving somewhere else to smoke.
"the lock downs!" again, in the US, we didn't have any. You were free to go wherever. We closed down business and government buildings. We did not stop deliveries, we did not stop you from going outside, we did not stop you from hanging out with friends. You're a snowflake that doesn't understand what a lockdown is.
"I can't breathe in a mask" oh stop now.
The long and short of it is that the Right convinced you what Covid was about so instead of building back better, we built back meh. Instead of "together we can," after just a couple months it was "I can and f' everybody else." Instead of "I care about my friends, family, and wider community" it was "I'm good (even if that's not really true)". Instead of "I wear a mask because it's harmless and protects my friends and family" it was "Wearing a mask is hard and an imposition but I do it to protect myself"... which became "Wearing a mask harms me and my friends and I don't do it because I'm safe" (which ignored SO MANY known facts about Covid).
The logical consequence of accepting the other side's faulty premise is that you lose the argument. The logical consequence of promoting not caring about others is that people won't vote in favor of caring about others. The logical consequence of saying "those others don't matter" is an extension of which "others" we're talking about.
Democrats are supposed to be about caring. Democrats are supposed to be about the communal good. When we accept the communal good comes at the cost of personal injury, especially when it doesn't, what do you expect to happen? Democrats need to stand up for their values. They need to start shaping the narrative instead of responding to the narrative put forth by Republicans.

  • We are for personal choice and opposed to infringing on personal freedoms: We are for freedom to be who you are, where you are, and to love who you want. We are for not caring what happens in someone else's bedroom as long as it is consensual. We are for caring more about you do than what your name is or what language you speak... and we certainly aren't for making laws about what your name can be or what language you are allowed to speak.
  • We are for making the individual's life easier. Building and maintaining roads and bridges so they can get where they want to go and have others bring them things they want. Having fire departments and health care that is affordable and available to everyone. Having public transportation so they can have more options about how to get somewhere (and potentially a personally cheaper and more convenient option).
  • We are for vaccines because they save people and have been tested and found to be very safe. We are for having tests to make sure that's the case. We are for herd immunity because we care about mothers and young children. For this reason we are the pro-life side. The other side chooses death by not sufficiently supporting children and mothers.
  • We care less about illegal immigration than we do about driving under the influence or cheating on taxes or sexual abuse. Tell me again which side is for law enforcement?
Also... ALSO... if you think the Right is pissed about Covid, you're ignoring the continued absolute meltdown that the Right has had over a black man being elected President. Please tell me you think that this isn't absolutely linked to Trump's rise among the Right.
